The Maltese coat should be a single coat (no undercoat) that is flat, silky and hangs straight to the ground from a center part running from the nose to the tip of its tail.
The Maltese coat is white - a small amount of lemon or tan is permissible. They have dark eyes, nose, lips and eye rims. They are beautiful to look at when well cared for.
Maltese are the gentlest mannered little dogs. They are affectionate, seemingly fearless, and very intelligent. This makes them easily trainable.
Maltese need to be brused daily to keep their coat tangle free and bathed with a high quality shampoo and conditioner every week or two.
Maltese are hypoallergenic and very clean. They don't have the "doggie smell". The best Maltese is a well-trained one, which essentially means a well-trained owner. Please be willing to learn.
